A Modern Media Wall in Blackburn

March 31, 2026

From Idea to Reality

Media walls have become one of the most effective ways to bring both style and practicality into a living space. For this recent project in Blackburn, the homeowner wanted something simple, elegant and well thought through, a feature that would feel part of the room rather than added on top of it. They visited our showroom with an idea already forming, and together we shaped it into a complete design.

Understanding the Space

The room had an existing chimney breast which, on closer inspection, was slightly offset. This is more common than many people realise, and it often influences how a media wall can be built. A small discrepancy in the original structure can affect the balance of the room, so we carried out a full site survey to measure everything accurately before any building work began.

Our aim was to create a central focal point that looked symmetrical once completed, while still allowing for the constraints of the chimney breast behind.

Selecting the Right Fire

After discussing the room size, the customer’s preferred look and the practicalities of the space, we recommended the Solus 1.5m Electric Fire with the real log set. It offers a wide flame picture with a natural feel, and its proportions work particularly well in larger living rooms.

The real log set adds warmth and character to the installation, giving the flame effect the depth and texture many homeowners look for when choosing an electric fire.

Designing the Media Wall

To bring everything together, we built a new media wall in front of the chimney breast. This allowed us to create clean lines and a symmetrical finish, something that wouldn’t have been possible using the original structure alone.

A 65-inch television was positioned above the fire at a comfortable viewing height. All cables and connections were fully concealed, keeping the look uncluttered and refined.

Adding Practical Storage

Storage was an important part of the brief. The customer didn’t want open storage or anything that would draw attention away from the fire and TV, so we created three storage units across both sides of the wall. Each one is fitted with push-to-open, soft-close doors for a smooth, understated finish finished with LED lighting.

These units offer plenty of hidden storage for everyday items, helping the room stay calm and organised without compromising the clean design.

The Finished Result

The completed media wall has transformed the room. The proportions feel balanced, the fire creates a warm and welcoming focal point, and the storage keeps everything neatly out of sight. The Solus150 sits beautifully within the space, providing both ambience and presence without overpowering the room.

Why Good Planning Matters

Every media wall is different. Room layouts vary, chimney breasts aren’t always central, and homeowners often need their installation to achieve several things at once. This is why a thorough design process is so valuable. By taking time at the start to understand the space, the restrictions and the customer’s priorities, we’re able to create something that looks effortless once finished.
